Hi Mary,

I'm doing the same thing. I have very sandy soil that will not hold water. I have 12" of top soil in my beds, and amended the soil with spagnum this year to help hold water. I am going to put bio-char and leaves in the beds in the fall and let them rest over the long MI winter.

Hope this helps.

We are making a raised garden this year, because we have poor soil. We were going to use topsoil, but we need organic matter also. What should we add to this?
Thanks,
Mary
